Reprographics
What is reprography? The dictionary tells us that it is:
"The process of reproducing, reprinting, or copying graphic material especially by mechanical, photographic, or electronic means."
In plain English, it's everything relating to copying, printing and scanning. You may be amazed to know that:
- Colour HP printer ink is seven times more expensive than 1985 Dom Perignon champagne
- Reprographics is the 3rd highest cost in most organisations
- Email has increased your print volumes by 40%
- Paper use is growing by 6-8% per annum
- Up to 15% of your revenue is spent on various publishing activities
And these are just the hard costs. There are the environmental factors to consider:
- Resource conservation
- Energy conservation
- Health of employees
In this era, we need to be cognisant of the impact we're having on the world around us. Most businesses are spending more than they need on paper and ink, when there are easy ways to reduce resource consumption - if you know how. Likewise, too much money is being spent on power by having inefficient single-tasking machines strewn around your offices. Finally, new research (Queensland University of Technology 2007) tells us that laser printers are "as unhealthy as cigarettes" for your employees, if their use is not consolidated and they're not located in the right places.
