Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC)
Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) is one of the hottest "buzz phrases" in the industry. Is FMC a product? Is FMC a solution? Or is it a concept that can mean different things to different people. It's probably the last of these. We know one thing - people are interested in it enough for us to give it a section in its own right.
To have any value, Fixed Mobile Convergence needs to deliver the following benefits:
- Reduced costs of mobile convergence through least cost routing
- Ease of contactibility for mobile staff - reachable on one number
- Improved productivity for mobile staff when on the move
- Integrating mobile staff in the same way as desk-bound staff
- Making the mobile working experience the same as in the office
That's what Charterhouse thinks matters for FMC. We believe there are three flavours of FMC:
- Fixed Mobile Convergence Phase 1 - single numbering through mobile twinning
- Fixed Mobile Convergence Phase 2 - softclients on mobile devices
- Fixed Mobile Convergence Phase 3 - single device use internally using dual phones and/or inbuilding picocellular usage
We discuss these topics in our flexible working section on the site. We have the expertise with IP telephony partners such as Avaya, Cisco and Mitel, and with devices such as BlackBerry, to develop a bespoke FMC solution for your business. This will make life easy for your employees in the field and for your customers as well, by converging mobiles with IP telephony to form a unified communications experience.
