Single Number and Mobile Twinning
Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) is one of the biggest buzzphrases in the industry. Indeed, we've even dedicated a whole section of the website to this topic. One of the objectives of FMC is to combine with hotdesking (logging on to any phone) to deliver a true single number solution.
Single numbering means just that: users can be reached on one number that follows them wherever they go. This improves customer service and responsiveness whilst eliminating telephone tag and voicemail tennis. A technology called "mobile twinning" facilitates this for the times when users are not in an office or at home.
Put simply, twinning means that the user's direct line phone number (their desk phone) is twinned with their mobile phone number. Calls come through to their single number and both devices ring. If they're logged onto a phone, they answer the call on that device; if they're out of the building, they answer the call on their mobile. It's easy to achieve but the improvements to communicating effectively can be profound.
